Dear Colleagues,
Immunology, which plays a key role in the mechanisms underlying the development of internal medicine diseases, encounters certain difficulties in achieving the integration and standing it deserves in today’s clinical practice and academic platforms. The institutional processes our branch has recently undergone have restricted clinical immunology practice, particularly in adult patients, and have made it harder for our newly trained specialists to develop their laboratory competencies and multidisciplinary diagnostic vision.
Today, under the umbrella of ERİD (the Adult Immunology Association) — not merely an association, but an academic alliance — we set out to place immunology back at the heart of the clinic.
Why ERİD?
Modern medicine demonstrates that immune system disorders and dysregulation are of primary importance in the pathogenesis of a broad clinical spectrum: from nephrotic syndrome to rheumatological diseases, from haematological malignancies to transplantation processes. Existing branch structures and current association umbrellas nevertheless remain inadequate both in representing this vast field of adult immunology and in establishing the academic foundation our branch deserves.
ERİD was therefore born of a historic need: to redraw the clinical and academic boundaries of adult immunology, to give our specialist title the institutional strength it deserves, and to make our branch a dynamic focus of modern medicine.
What Will ERİD Change?
1. Laboratory and Clinical Integration (From Our Roots to the Future)
A Clinical Immunology Specialist is not merely a physician who plans treatment, but a multidisciplinary scientist who personally interprets flow cytometry data, distinguishes immunodeficiencies from haematological pathologies through immunophenotyping, integrates genetic results with the clinical picture, and — by resolving diseases that have become diagnostic deadlocks — develops treatment strategies according to the principles of precision medicine. Through the hands-on workshops and certificate programmes it will organise, our association will restore this weakening laboratory culture to our colleagues.
2. Building Multidisciplinary Clinical Partnerships
In the pathogenesis of many chronic, malignant and hereditary diseases across the internal medicine spectrum, there are significant processes that intersect with immune system dynamics. Through the interdisciplinary councils, joint scientific platforms and diagnostic/treatment algorithms it will establish, ERİD will place immunology at the central axis of clinical practice. This strong partnership with other subspecialties aims for far earlier, more holistic and more effective management of complex immunological diseases.
3. Specialisation in Transplantation Immunology
We are modernising and reinstating the certified clinician model in transplantation immunology and tissue typing, among our achievements from before 2010. We are returning immunological risk management in transplantation to the core of our focus, and we are launching every administrative and academic initiative required to make this competency not merely a consultancy service, but an inseparable part of our daily practice and a direct clinical responsibility.
4. Academic and Clinical Guidance
To fill the gap that the current training curriculum leaves in the field of clinical immunology, we will offer our colleagues guidance to international standards, case councils and continuing medical education on adult immunodeficiencies and complex immunological diseases. By supporting these educational processes with precision medicine and next-generation diagnostic approaches, we aim for our specialists to lead scientific developments on a global scale.
Our Call
We are scientists who do not merely manage clinical symptoms, but who analyse the disrupted dynamics deep within the immune system, illuminate pathophysiological processes and develop individualised treatment strategies. If you too wish to carry the dynamic and guiding role of clinical immunology to the summit it deserves in the world of medicine; if you aim to unite the scientific power of the laboratory with the experience of the clinic, ERİD is your home.
Come, let us join hands and begin a new scientific era in adult immunology in our country.
Respectfully,
The Founding President and Executive Board of ERİD
